How to Enable Face ID Login on Binance App

Face ID is the fastest way for iPhone users to open the Binance App: just look at it to get in, no need to press a fingerprint or enter a password. The setup process takes about 1 minute. This article provides the complete steps and precautions. If you haven't installed the iOS version of Binance yet, you can first go to the Binance Official Website to get the installation package, or directly open the Binance Official App download page. If you are unfamiliar with the iOS installation process, please read the iOS Installation Guide first.

Differences Between Face ID and Fingerprint Unlock

Starting with the iPhone X, Apple replaced the Touch ID fingerprint of older iPhones with Face ID. Both serve the same purpose in the Binance app as a local unlock layer, but the trigger method differs:

  • Face ID: Raise the phone, the camera recognizes the face, and it's done in an instant.
  • Touch ID: Press your finger on the Home button.
  • Android Under-Display Fingerprint: Press your finger on a specific area of the screen.

The advantage of Face ID is that you don't need to touch the phone at all. It can recognize you even if you wear glasses, from different angles, and in low-light environments (equipped with an infrared dot projector).

iPhone Models That Support Face ID

All full-screen models starting from iPhone X (2017) are equipped with Face ID:

  • iPhone X / XS / XR / XS Max
  • iPhone 11 Series (all models)
  • iPhone 12 Series (all models)
  • iPhone 13 Series (all models)
  • iPhone 14 Series (all models)
  • iPhone 15 Series (all models)
  • iPhone 16 Series (all models)
  • iPad Pro 11/12.9-inch (2018 models and later)

The iPhone SE series is an exception — SE 2/3 both use Touch ID (Home button) and do not support Face ID.

Preparation Before Enabling Face ID

1. Confirm Face ID is Set Up on Your iPhone

Go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode → enter your lock screen password → check if Face ID is set up. If not, follow the system prompts to record it first.

2. Binance App Must Be Logged In

First, log in normally using your account password + 2FA. Face ID cannot be enabled when not logged in.

3. Ensure Binance App is Updated

iOS versions 2.70 and above support Face ID. Go to the App Store or Binance official website first to download and update to the latest version.

Complete Steps to Enable Face ID

Step 1: Open the Binance App and Log In

Log in with your email/phone number + password, and enter the 6-digit verification code from Google Authenticator.

Step 2: Go to the "Profile" Section

Tap the Avatar icon or "Profile" on the far right of the bottom navigation bar.

Step 3: Open "Security" Settings

On the Profile page, find "Security" or "Security Center" and tap to enter.

Step 4: Find "Face ID Unlock"

In the security settings list, find:

  • "Face ID Unlock"
  • Or "Biometric Login"

Tap to enter.

Step 5: Turn on the Switch

Toggle the switch for "Unlock with Face ID" to green. iOS will prompt a system-level permission request:

"'Binance' Would Like to Use Face ID" Allow / Don't Allow

Tap "OK" or "Allow".

Step 6: Facial Verification

Raise the phone to your face, the Face ID recognition frame will appear. Align with your face for 1-2 seconds until verification passes.

Step 7: Test it Once

Press the Home button or swipe up to exit the app. Close the Binance process completely from the background, and then reopen the icon from the home screen:

  • The APP splash screen appears.
  • The Face ID prompt immediately pops up.
  • Glance at the screen.
  • Directly enter the homepage.

The entire process takes less than 1 second.

Optional: Set the Trigger Timing for Face ID

Some versions of the Binance app allow you to adjust when Face ID is triggered:

Option 1: Require Every Time Opened

The strictest setting. You must scan your face when returning from the background, or after locking the screen and reopening.

Option 2: Require After Leaving Background for X Minutes

For example, "after 5 minutes in the background". The most commonly used compromise, safe but not overly intrusive.

Option 3: Require Only for Sensitive Operations

For example, viewing full assets, modifying security settings, or initiating withdrawals. Will not trigger for daily market viewing.

Options 1 or 2 are recommended.

Can Face ID Work with a Mask?

Starting with iOS 15.4, Face ID supports "Face ID with a Mask". This needs to be turned on in Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Face ID with a Mask. Once enabled, the recognition rate may slightly decrease but remains functional.

However, note that Face ID with a mask is only supported on iPhone 12 and newer models. Older models like iPhone 11 / XR / XS are not supported.

What to Do If Face ID Fails

Scenario 1: Face ID Doesn't Trigger Upon App Startup

  • Restart your iPhone once.
  • Turn off Face ID in the Binance app settings and turn it on again.
  • Update the Binance app to the latest version.

Scenario 2: Consecutive Face ID Failures

  • Too dark or too bright backlight can cause failures.
  • The camera module might be covered by fingerprints or dust.
  • After 5 consecutive failed attempts, Face ID will automatically revert to password login.

Scenario 3: Face ID Unrecognized After Facial Changes

After shaving a heavy beard, getting cosmetic procedures, or significant facial surgery, Face ID might not recognize you. Simply re-record your face in Settings.

Scenario 4: Can Twins Unlock Each Other's Phones?

The recognition accuracy of Face ID has some risks for twins. Identical twins may potentially unlock each other's devices. If you are a twin, it is recommended to use a password instead of Face ID, or add an app lock.

Security Layers of Face ID

Server-Side Layer:

  • Account Password
  • 2FA (Google Authenticator)
  • Anti-Phishing Code
  • Device Whitelist

Client-Side Layer:

  • Face ID / Touch ID
  • App Lock
  • System Screen Lock

Face ID is part of the client-side defense and is used in conjunction with server-side security measures.

Relationship Between Face ID and iPhone Lock Screen

Many users ask: "The iPhone lock screen already uses Face ID, isn't adding another layer of Face ID to the Binance app redundant?"

No. Reasons:

  1. Once the iPhone is unlocked on the home screen, any app can be opened directly.
  2. If someone briefly borrows your phone (while unlocked), they could directly open Binance and see your assets.
  3. App-level Face ID ensures that you can only enter at the exact moment "you raise the phone to your face".

Therefore, app-level and system-level Face ID are complementary, not repetitive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can Face ID completely replace my password?

A: No. Face ID is a local unlock layer. The server still relies on your account password + 2FA. If someone logs into your account from another device, they will still need the password and 2FA.

Q: Is Face ID with a mask effective for the Binance app?

A: Completely effective. As long as the iOS system's Face ID function is working properly, the Binance app can use the same recognition mechanism.

Q: Can children unlock my Binance app?

A: As long as their faces have not been recorded in the iPhone's Face ID, they cannot unlock it. However, if a child's face closely resembles a parent's, occasional false recognitions might happen. Sharing devices is not recommended.

Q: Will my account be locked after several failed Face ID attempts?

A: Face ID failures will not lock the account; it will only revert to password login. However, entering the wrong password multiple times may trigger account-level security protection.

Q: Can iPad Pro use Face ID to log into Binance?

A: Yes. 2018 and later iPad Pro models support Face ID, and the Binance iPad version is compatible.
